Recommended labs
A review of the Gmail labs we can't live without
In fact we wish these labs would hurry up and become standard features.
| Lab | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Inserting images | Insert images directly into the body of an email | Not as useful now you can copy and paste images into emails |
| Canned Responses | Brilliant way to set up email templates if you need to send regular emails with the same template | The user interface is not as good as it could be |
| Google Docs previews in mail | Shows previews of documents, spreadsheets and presentations directly in the email when you receive any link to a Google Doc. | Takes some vertical at the bottom of each email |
| Quick links | Save a link to any part of Google Apps Gmail eg a specific tab within Settings, or a specific search | It's a shame you can't save external links |
| Preview pane | One for Outlook users that miss the preview pane feature | We're not sure Gmail is meant to have a preview pane |
| Chat on right | Move the chat box to the right hand side if it suits you. Opens up left hand side for other lab - such as Quick Links | You lose right hand space. |
| Undo Send | For those of you who don't religiously check email for spellings etc, a chance to quickly stop an email from being sent. | May encourage bad practice, emails should be checked before you hit that Send button. |
